A now retired manager for community relations for this oil company, he gave VIP tours to hedge fund managers and investors. He was excellent at presenting the good news story about clean oil, and the success of reclaimed land. He brought me into the camp and out of the eight Newfoundlanders we came across in the camp, he was, through a few questions, able to make a personal link. He left Newfoundland with his family as a burnt out minister, in debt and has since become wealthy. He and his son rent properties in Newfoundland. He was about to take his son to have a gastric band operation in Toronto. The son will retire at 40 with enough property assets to do so. He said people joked that there weren’t enough O’s in smooth to describe him and yet it was easy to feel invisible around him.
